How much of Bali this site actually covers

Measured 2026-09-09. Every figure below is a count of businesses we can name, not an estimate.

289rental businesses listed
205of them publish their rates online
61more we can name and have not listed yet
83%of the 350 operators we can name

What that number is, and what it is not

350 is a floor, not the size of the market. It is the number of separate rental businesses we can currently put a name to: the 289 we list, plus 61 more that appear in open map data under a motorbike or bike rental category and are not in our index yet. Of those, 20 have a website we can read and 41 do not, so reaching them means contacting them.

The real number of scooter rental operators in Bali is larger than 350, by an amount we cannot honestly quantify. A shop that trades entirely walk-in, with no website and no map listing, appears in no source we hold, and no amount of cleverness with the sources we do hold can see it. The only measurement that would is someone walking the strips in Canggu, Kuta and Ubud and counting shopfronts: a real plan, and not yet done.

Why there is no “we cover X% of Bali” here

There was, for about a day. We estimated the market at 1,053 operators using capture-recapture against an open map dataset, and put our share at 21%. That figure is withdrawn, for a reason worth stating plainly: we then went and crawled the map dataset’s own list of websites. The two samples stopped being independent, the measured overlap tripled, and the same formula began reporting a market of 337 operators and a 66% share.

Neither number describes Bali. The second one describes our own crawl. A statistic that moves that far because of something we did to ourselves is not a statistic we are willing to publish, so the page you are reading counts instead.

How prices get here

Every price is read from the rental shop’s own website and is shown with the date we last confirmed it. We do not take prices from other comparison sites, we do not ask shops what to publish, and where a shop publishes no rate for a given length of stay we say so rather than estimating one. 84 of the businesses we list publish no prices online at all; they are listed anyway, with their contact details and no invented figure.

Terms, meaning deposit, insurance and whether they hold your passport, are shown only where the shop publishes them. Most do not, and a blank on this site means we could not find it stated, never that the answer is no.

How shops are ordered

Cheapest first, on the rate for the length of stay you asked for, after each shop’s own discount tiers are applied.

Where the shops are

The 289 we list are spread across 29 areas, and 86 publish no single base. Most of those deliver island-wide, which is a fact about them rather than a gap in us. Every area has its own page, listed on the home page and reachable from the full directory. We publish counts there and deliberately not percentages, because we cannot measure the size of one village’s market any better than we can measure the island’s.
